Additional performers have been announced for the annual Broadway Backwards concert — featuring male singers performing songs traditionally sung by women and women singing tunes written for men — which will be presented Feb. 22 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. Stage and screen star Florence Henderson — best known for her role as TV mom Carol Brady on “The Brady Bunch” — will host the concert.
Newly added performers to the evening include Tituss Burgess (Guys and Dolls, The Little Mermaid), Mario Cantone (”Sex and the City,” Laugh Whore), Raul Esparza (Speed-the-Plow, Company), Becki Newton (ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” Girl Crazy at Encores!) and Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change; Jelly’s Last Jam).
These artists join the previously announced Gary Beach, Len Cariou, Tony Goldwyn, Aaron Lazar, Michele Lee and Julia Murney. Co-creator Robert Bartley will direct with musical direction by Wayne Barker. The upcoming concert will benefit both Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and New York’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Community Center. UGLY BETTY – “Smokin’ Hot” – Wilhemina marginalizes Betty during Fashion Week but Daniel intercedes, and she’s assigned to cover a low-priority show. There, she discovers a new designer, Marisa, whom she promotes as one of the 10 Designers to Watch, but Marc steals all her thunder. Meanwhile, Amanda is impressed by Helen’s (Kristen Johnston’s) sewing skills and teams up with her to start a new line, but cannot convince Marc or Betty to lobby Wilhemina on her behalf. Claire’s son Tyler (Neal Bledsoe) comes to New York to find her, and Daniel gets seduced into modeling. The fashion and the feelings are smoking hot, but the real flames are at the Suarez home, which mysteriously catches fire, on “Ugly Betty,” WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
