Becki Newton refuses to take fashion seriously.

The ‘Ugly Betty’ star - who plays clothes-obsessed receptionist Amanda in the hit US show - says she likes to have fun with her look and wouldn’t want her life ruled by having the latest trends.

She said: “I read fashion magazines all the time. It’s fun, but I don’t take it very seriously. I find if you take hair, make-up and clothes too seriously, you’ll become like Amanda - and that’s a cautionary tale!”

However, Becki admits she enjoys being given free clothes and accessories by designers.

She told Britain’s Look magazine: “As an actress, one of the perks is having access to ridiculously expensive clothing and prancing around on the red carpet. Who wouldn’t want to have fun with that?

“I’ve managed to get some beautiful bags. I have a great collection and so does my mother. My favourite is a purple one by Gucci, which I take everywhere!”

Hollywood, CA (CNS) - “Ugly Betty” star Becki Newton will be appearing on Bravo’s “The Fashion Show” this week as a guest judge. The actress will be presenting the Harper’s Bazaar mini challenge to help contestants solve the age-old problem of the “walk of shame.”

For the mini challenge, the contestants will need to take last night’s party outfit and recreate it into a work appropriate outfit. They will be allowed to use anything that would normally be found in an office to help add to their design.

For the show’s elimination challenge, the designers will head to a surprise location to work for a major player in the fashion industry. Model and actress Veronica Webb will be sitting in on the judge’s panel this week to help choose a winner.

Lucky editors reinvented looks with new spring items and participants got a personalized fashion look book, courtesy of Flippin’ Fun. Additionally, participants who donated clothes to the Eastside Girls Club received a Lucky tote.
